Here's a little marching song that will give little toddlers and preschoolers a chance to stretch their legs in between all the book-reading and finger-playing that we do in our younger classes. The lyrics are below. Now go march!

Following the leader, the leader, the leader
We’re following the leader
Wherever he may go (repeat)

We won’t be home till morning,
Till morning, till morning
We won’t be home till morning
Because he told us so

Tee dum, tee dee, a teedle ee do tee day
We’re out for fun
And this is the game we play
Come on, join in
And sing your troubles away
With a teedle ee dum, a teedle dum dee day

Following the leader...
We won’t be home till morning...
Tee dum, tee dee...

Following the leader...
We won’t be home till morning...

Tee dum, tee dee, a teedle ee do tee day
We march along and
These are the words we say
Tee dum, tee dee, a teedle dee deedle dee ay
Oh, a teedle ee dum, a teedle ee do tee day
Oh, a teedle ee dum, a teedle ee do tee day

Know-how:

The video provides some inspiration. Why not try...
  • A variety of silly walks, including walking backwards
  • Walking with arms in several silly positions -- stretched out as airplane wings, or flapping bird wings, or held on one's head, or "Frankenstein"-like, or flexing one's muscles. :-)
  • Walking with some props - musical instruments, scarves, or puppets, even.
