Name and rhythm

An easy way to get to know children, especially when conducting a small group programme, is to ask a child her name, and then have the entire group repeat her name in unison, while clapping hands for each of the syllables of their name.

Hence, Kapila becomes:

Ka-Pi-La, with three claps.

One technique I experienced at a Zen class one time was this: after each pereson introduced her or himself, the entire group would repeat their name.

I'll start doing this at the infant/caregiver programme here - it may feel a little odd, to have everyone repeat names, but we'll start with the babies and go from there. This is a good solution to the problem of having too many babies in your group to sing a song involving each one's name!
